Had a conversation this week with an All-American beach volleyball player who graduated last year and is now working in corporate sales. She was in tears multiple times during our call. The transition out of elite sport is brutal in ways most people don't understand. There's this God-like feeling you get when you're performing at the absolute peak of your ability. You're dominating. You're in flow. You have complete clarity and purpose because everything you do is focused on winning the game, winning the championship, supporting your teammates. And then it's gone. She goes to the gym 5-6 times a week but it's not the same. Because what is she training for? Corporate sales goals don't hit the same. The intensity, the all-consuming nature of elite sport - you can't replicate that in normal life. People say "just play rec league" but if you've been at the elite level, you know why that doesn't work. It's like telling a drug addict to just have a smaller dose. You're never going to get that same high again. This is why I'm so focused on helping athletes with the identity separation work. Who you are vs. what you do. It's the only way to move forward without feeling like you lost yourself. Had a conversation with Dr. Cassidy Preston this week that completely reframed how I'm thinking about building this business. He showed me a simple framework: Point A (where you are) to Point B (where you want to go). Above the line are feelings, below the line are actions. The question he asked me was: what if you could feel all the end result feelings now, in the process of getting there? Things like peace, contentment, perspective, worthiness, growth. Instead of waiting until you "make it" to feel those things, what if you felt them while doing the work? It's a reframe I really needed this week. We've been so focused on metrics and KPIs and growth numbers that I forgot why I'm doing this in the first place. The pivot away from boot content has been harder than I expected, but this framework helped me remember that sustainable progress beats miserable grinding every time. Also talked about why I'm making these weekly reps in the first place. These aren't for most of you, honestly. I'm doing this for my kids. If my dad had documented his life and his business when he was 30, I'd be watching every second of it. So I'm creating that for them. Episode five. Big week. Michael Cunningham (@7mlc) flew in with his wife, and it's been incredible having them here. There's something about being around people who actually get what you're doing. Not just supportive people, but people operating in the same arena who understand the specific challenges of building a solo creator business and personal brand.
